Weatherization Assistance Program

New York State's climates vary wildly, from blistering heat to subzero cold. Most residents of Chenango County find this a challenge, but none so more than those with inadequate heating or insulation in their homes.

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is a nationwide program to assist homeowners and tenants in improving the energy efficiency of their homes. Funding for this program comes from the State and Federal Governments and is administered by local agencies. OFC, Inc. is the WAP administrator for Chenango County.

Low-income households typically spend 14% of their total annual income on energy, compared with 3.5% for other households. This burden becomes even more unmanageable when energy
prices soar. Low-income families often have to cut back on other necessities to pay their energy bills.

Weatherization reduces home energy consumption and alleviates the household’s energy burden. Nationally, Weatherization produces average annual energy savings of $300 per household.
