Our Mission:

Opportunities for Chenango, Inc. (also known as OFC, Inc.) is a Community Action Agency (CAA) committed to supporting families and individuals to:

  • Recognize their strengths
  • Set realistic goals
  • Make responsible choices
  • Become successful, self-sufficient members of our community

We achieve our mission through programs that focus on child and family development, housing security, life skills training, education, literacy, health and nutrition, community, employment and economic development.

 

What is OFC, Inc.?

OFC, Inc. is a:

  • 501(c)(3) Community Action Agency
  • Community Development Corporation
  • Community Housing Development Organization

OFC, Inc. is certified by the United States Dept. of Housing and Urban Development for Housing Counseling.

We have a 21 member Tripartite Board of Directors representing, as mandated by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964:

  • Public officials or their designees
  • Private sector representatives
  • Low income representatives

All with an active role in program review and service provision, and working strongly with staff to strategically plan for Chenango County and it's future.

 

What is Community Action?

Community Action Agencies (CAAs) are nonprofit private and public organizations established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to fight America's War on Poverty. CAAs help people to help themselves in achieving self-sufficiency. There are approximately 1,000 Community Action Agencies in the United States.
