My Home Base Visitor discussed the results with me and suggested that I follow up with an evaluation by an optometrist. My son was examined and it was determined that he needed glasses. The ENT performed surgery on January 15th and added tubes and removed his adenoids. There was fluid built up behind both eardrums. I'm glad we caught this problem early. When I first enrolled my children in Head Start I knew it would be great for them, but I had no idea it would benefit me also. Head Start focuses on the entire family. Through my involvement in my children's classrooms, at parent meetings, on advisory groups, and as a Board member I have developed confidence in myself, have learned more about the resources in my community and have built strong decision making skills. Just like with any organization or club, you get out of it what you put into it. I have volunteered many hours and my children and I have received so much.DN

Finding myself in financial troubles after having to move out of lower Manhattan because of the WTC attacks, I couldn't afford to insulate my "handyman" house, and my first winter here was cold and quite uncomfortable.
With all the changes and hardships I've been going through, I was very concerned about my situation for winters. Thanks to Opportunities for Chenango, I am now cozy and warm in my home, and I can put more of my energies into creating and rebuilding a new life for myself here in Chenango County.
Thank God this program exists to help American citizens in need to help themselves.
