Since
1995, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program has been
serving Chenango County. RSVP has given seniors, 55 and
older, opportunities to provide volunteer services to non-profit
organizations and remain active and involved in the Chenango
County community.
Some
of the organizations that benefit from their expertise
are: Hospice, American Red Cross, Head Start, New York
State Veteran’s Home, Valley View Manor, Girl Scouts,
Northeast Classic Car Museum, Area Agency on Aging, Big
Brother/Big Sister, and Habitat for Humanity . RSVP draws
on a valuable community asset: the wisdom and life experience
of its’ elders.
In
the fall of 2001 RSVP volunteers implemented the Barney
Pals curriculum at Head Start sites. Each volunteer took
an interactive “Barney” to present a program
to the children.
The
community also benefits from the RSVP Osteoporosis Prevention
exercise class, computer training, and the Smoke Detector
give away program. All services are free and provided
by RSVP Volunteers.
