Bates, RSVP Director
On August 17th, 210 RSVP volunteers gathered at the Canasawacta Country Club for the 4th annual recognition breakfast.
RSVP volunteers were treated to a breakfast buffet filled with delicious food and wonderful desserts.
Hour Club winners were given special certificates and pins to recognize their achievements. Assemblyman Clifford Crouch was present and handed out the pins to the award winners.
Volunteers racked up 23,640 hours last year. The challenge for this year is 25,000. The volunteer with the most hours accumulated was, once again, Gladys Benjamin. Gladys turned in 1,119 hours. Close behind her was Dora Johnson who turned in 1,069 hours. Both Dora and Gladys were given special appreciation certificates by Assemblyman Crouch. Mr. Crouch stated to the volunteers, "You truly are what makes Chenango County so special. A lot of things wouldn't happen without you."
Also in attendance was Smyrna Town Supervisor Gerald Parry. Mr. Parry commented that he was amazed at the number of seniors that are willing to get out and give back to the Chenango County area.
RSVP Director Doreen Bates closed the ceremony by saying, "I am honored to be a part of this organization." She also thanked all the volunteers for all that they do and are willing to give to this community.
